Cannabis Legalization
Cannabis Venture Capital supports legalization and sensible regulation of cannabis.
It should be legal to grow and use a personal amount of cannabis, but we’ve seen what can happen behind the walls without oversight. Licenses for legal cannabis should reward the people who advocated for legalization in the first place, and be awarded based on merit, not fees or lottery.

Cannabis Decriminalization
Cannabis Venture Capital supports cannabis decriminalization.
Nobody should be in jail for a plant, and criminal records for cannabis have done more harm than good. In an ideal world, cannabis would be fully legal, but removing the criminal aspect from cannabis offenses would be a good start toward repairing the harm done by prohibition.

Pardons for Cannabis Offenses
Cannabis Venture Capital supports pardons for cannabis offenses.
Too many lives have been ruined over a plant that should have never been illegal in the first place. Nobody should have a criminal record for cannabis, and anyone convicted of a cannabis offense for possession should receive a full pardon, record expungement and repercussions…including free weed :)

Commercial Cannabis Regulation
Cannabis Venture Capital supports regulation of growing and selling cannabis products.
We’ve personally seen the dark underbelly of an unregulated cannabis industry, and it’s not pretty. Think grow rooms infested with spider mites, Eagle 20 concentrated in your extracts, and weed that makes you sick when you smoke it. Without proper regulation and facility inspections there are few consequences for doing the wrong things, leading to misrepresented products and bad medicine.

H.R.5485 - Hemp Farming Act of 2018
Cannabis Venture Capital supports the spirit of the Farm Bill, but advocates for changes in 2023.
We believe the Farm Bill is good intention gone bad. The Farm Bill recognized the many benefits of hemp, but failed to make provisions for using it as food or medicine, essentially making it illegal to produce and sell for its most effective attributes. At the same time, Big Ag, which has been a proponent of prohibition, was allowed to grow unlimited acres of hemp with no previous experience with the plant.

Intellectual Property
Cannabis Venture Capital supports intellectual property rights for cannabis businesses.
We believe in equality for the cannabis industry. Current legislation makes it almost impossible to get a patent or trademark for cannabis-related goods and services, making it hard for cannabis entrepreneurs to secure their intellectual property.
We also believe natural medicine shouldn’t be under lock-and-key, because it belongs to all of us. We don’t support patenting anything that comes directly from nature, including cannabis strains and naturally-occurring cannabinoids like CBD and THC.

Cannabis and our Furry Friends
Cannabis Venture Capital supports allowing hemp-based products for dogs, cats, and livestock.
All animals have an endocannabinoid system — from the cows and chickens that feed the world to the dogs and cats that become members of our family — and that means all animals can benefit from cannabinoids. Our furry friends (and food) should have the right to enjoy cannabinoids through hemp-based food and supplements.

Personal Grows
Cannabis Venture Capital supports the people’s right to grow and make personal medicine at home.
We believe that the cannabis plant belongs to everyone, and everyone should have the right to grow their own herb and make extracts responsibly. That means, no piggybacking electrical cords, overloading circuits, open blasting in the garage, or stealing electricity from the pole ;)

Discrimination
Cannabis Venture Capital is against discrimination in the cannabis industry.
We believe that cannabis doesn’t discriminate, but cannabis entrepreneurs are discriminated against by bureaucrats and crony capitalists. Cannabis entrepreneurs pay more for government-mandated compliance systems and taxes, plus we’re not allowed to use traditional banks, write off expenses, or obtain trademarks and patents.
Cannabis brings homeostasis to the body, and cannabis regulation should bring balance to the industry.

Plastics
Cannabis Venture Capital is against the mandated use of plastic for flower packaging.
Single-use plastic cannabis packaging is extremely harmful to the environment and ineffective for its intended purpose.
Marijuana packaging requirements are designed to keep children out, but the laws don’t take common sense or science into account. Cannabis flower is non-psychoactive without activation, meaning the worst that could happen from eating cannabis is a bad taste in your mouth. Nobody is getting high from touching or eating cannabis flower, and any child capable of breaking up a nug, rolling a joint, and finding a flame won’t be deterred.
Orally active formulations such as food or oil should remain in child-safe packaging, but cannabis flower doesn’t pose the same risk. These single-use plastics fill up our parks, landfills, and oceans with poison that could be eliminated by removing the current regulations.
